It may not look like it, but I’ve made excellent progress this weekend.
- 6ft x 6ft raised bed built from scratch
- strawberries planted out in one of my mini beds
- sweet peas and sugar snaps planted out - complete with wigwams
- raspberry supports errected
- 3 gooseberries planted out (thanks Jon)
- shed tarted up with various places to hang things
I think I’ve got a problem…can you be addicted to allotment gardening?

Hi Lucy. I am enjoying reading your Blog; especially now that I have just taken ownership of a plot in Cross Green. I think I will be scouring your site over the next few weeks and months for beginner’s tips.
I reckon that you can get addicted, by the way…

Great panorama Lucy, your plot looks very industrious and well organised.
As to addiction…you won’t know for sure unless you have to give it up for a while as I have. Now it’s planting time I have “Spring Fever”…”all dressed up and nowhere to sow”. I
t’s very frustrating so I’d say yes…It’s addictive all right!

Ohhhhh, yes. You know something’s up when you get gardening books and a flashy trowel for your birthday and you’re chuffed.

Hi, thanks for all the comments!
@tom smith - you’ll have to keep me posted how you get on at Cross Green
@Greenmantle - cheers for the feedback - hope you get something sorted soon
@Frankie - symptons noted so far are:
- finding myself twitching when I see a new gardening book in ‘Smiths
- daydreaming at work about what jobs I need to be doing in the evening
- getting giddy at the thoughts of a trip to Homebase
- reading my seed catalogue on the train instead of a novel
…should I be worried?
